OnePlus Devices To Get VoLTE Support Soon
In an effort to stay in trend with the Jio fanaticism, OnePlus has announced that it would be bringing VoLTE support to it's flagship devices, including the "2014 Flagship Killer", OnePlus One.
After having been acclaimed to criticism by fans and experts alike for the lack of VoLTE support in the OxygenOS 3.1.0 update for the OnePlus 2 (which started rolling out last week), OnePlus wrote that "We’ve been keeping a close eye on forum discussions and noted the requests to enable VoLTE (Voice over LTE) or HD calling support on OnePlus smartphones."
Reliance Jio's "welcome offer" has drawn up a lot of eyes towards it from the Indian public who are succumbing to the depths of data poverty. Quoting on from our last post:
The "welcome offer" allows a Jio SIM user to "try out" high speed 4G internet at no cost at all, for a period of three months (till December 31, 2016). The only thing the JIO sim user needs is a VoLTE compatible handset. There is a lack of such handsets in India because Reliance Jio is the first network in India to have a wide VoLTE coverage.
To extend VoLTE support to a handset which has the hardware capabilities required for VoLTE, the handset makers need to make small changes to the device's software, which can be done easily through a small software update. OnePlus is doing the same thing at the moment.
VoLTE support would be extended to all the OnePlus 2 users through an OTA update, scheduled to be rolled out within the next quarter. OnePlus One & OnePlus X would be following OnePlus 2's footsteps sometime later. OnePlus' current flagship, the OnePlus 3 comes with VoLTE support out of the box.
