It's Official, Nexus Is Dead

Just yesterday, we had staked a claim that Google might be calling off the Nexus brand entirely. We have an official confirmation of the same now.

On contacting Google support, we were confirmed the news of Nexus' demise. At the same time, The Verge was also able to obtain an individual confirmation of the same.

In a post on The Keyword, Google's blog for posting about everything done by Google, Brian Rakowski, Vice President of Product Management at Google, wrote:

Many of you may be familiar with the Nexus program. Since 2010, we’ve partnered closely with mobile handset partners around the world to bring you the best of Android. Through Nexus, the goal was to work with these various partners to push the boundaries of what’s possible with a smartphone. We’ve now decided to take the next step and provide our take on the best Google experience, by bringing hardware and software design together under one roof.

This post clubbed with yesterday's tweet from Nexus' twitter handle round up the fact that Google is done with the Nexus brand. It is truly the end of an era, just like it was for BlackBerry when it quit smartphone manufacturing entirely.
