Why Is Google Shaping Up A New Brand For Smartphones?
Even now Google is present in the smartphone market through the Nexus branding. But, Google has failed to reflect "itself" in the Nexus smartphones. The concept of "images" is very important to take note of here.
Google wants to improve the way it is "picturized" by the average consumer. A phone with a Nexus branding and one with Google's branding has a lot of difference. Just think how an average consumer will take the name "Google Pixel". Everyone knows about Google since it is the largest and the most popular search engine of all time. Talking about a smartphone named "Google Pixel", as a consumer it appears to me that this is a phone which is "madeby" Google. We can't think about the Nexus branding in the same way.
When you say "Nexus 5X" is a premium segment phone, to an average consumer it might not appeal much. The average consumer however might decide to buy this device because it has been made by LG, which is a popular brand among the public. The 5X was pictured as LG Nexus 5X, a phone made by LG. The appeal knows no bounds when we talk about a Google Pixel, because this is a phone made by the most popular search engine of all time. Google's branding just might spice up the things a bit and as a buyer, I just might go ahead and buy this phone ahead of a Samsung flagship, just because this is a phone that is inbuilt with Google's trust. This just makes all the difference in the end. A change in name, that's just might what Google needed to make a dent in the smartphone industry.
