BlackBerry launches DTEK50 and DTEK60 in India

At an event in New Delhi, BlackBerry launched the DTEK50 and DTEK60 Android based smartphones in India.

The DTEK50 and DTEK60 are priced at Rs. 21,900 and Rs. 46,900 respectively. The DTEK50 will go on sale in the country from November 13, while the DTEK60 will be available from early December.

To recall, the BlackBerry DTEK50 was unveiled back in July, and began shipping in August, while the BlackBerry DTEK60 was announced last month. The DTEK50 is a mid-ranger, while the DTEK60 is a high-end flagship phone with top-of-the-line specs including a fingerprint scanner, which is first time in a BlackBerry device.

BlackBerry claims that these smartphones, are the "worlds most secure Android smartphone", as they come with full disk encryption and a secure boot process. Additionally both smartphones will receive Android security patches the same day that Google pushes them out.

It's also worth mentioning that BlackBerry hasn't manufactured these smartphones, instead used Alcatel's (TCL) reference design. The DTEK50 and DTEK60 are simply rebranded Alcatel Idol 4 and Alcatel Idol 4s respectively, with BlackBerry goodies on top.
