The OnePlus 5 Looks Like An iPhone, And They Confirmed It

A few days ago some images of the upcoming OnePlus 5 surfaced on the web, giving us a first look at the device. Now OnePlus is giving us another one, confirming that, yes, the OnePlus 5 will look like an iPhone.

OnePlus has a great reputation in the smartphone industry. Not only are their smartphones solidly built, but they also come with great software and internals, all of this at an affordable price. While the OnePlus 5 will definitely be a step forward for the company, its design is definitely not as unique as that of its predecessors.

Don't get me wrong, the looks of the OnePlus 5 are great. From the smooth metal back to the rounded front glass, the build of the device is elegant and modern. However, we have seen this design somewhere before. In their Twitter post, OnePlus does note that, in contrast to the ones on the iPhone 7, the sides of OnePlus 5's frame are flat, allowing for a better grip. I'd give them kudos for that.

From the photos we can see that OnePlus will implement their famous mute switch on the side of the device and that the screen will have some solid bezels at the top and bottom (which I still prefer over what we saw on the Essential Phone). There are also dual cameras at the back which is another great improvement.

The OnePlus 5 is set to launch on June 20th at 12:00 PM EDT which means that it is just 12 days away from being announced. And while it does look like an iPhone 7 with a changed logo, it will probably still be this year's flagship killer, just like its predecessor, the OnePlus 3, was in 2016.

Are you excited about the release of the OnePlus 5? Does the "I've already seen this somewhere" design bother you as much as it does me? Let us know in the comments section below!
