Xiaomi Releases List Of Devices To Be Updated To Nougat, Roll Out To Begin Before August 16

Even though Xiaomi releases updates for its devices regularly, it isn't known to bump up the Android version on them. This is largely because of the fact that MIUI is a highly customised skin of Android. And according to Xiaomi

We don't update a phone just to change an Android version number. But, actually it has to make the phone better.

It is going to be about an year since Nougat was announced in August last year. While most of the OEMs have already updated their devices to the latest version of Android, Xiaomi is now releasing the list of devices which will be getting the Nougat update in the form of MIUI 9.

Mi Max, Mi 5, Mi 5S, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi Note, Mi Note 2, Mi Mix, Mi Note 4X, Redmi Note 4

Mi 6, Mi Max 2, Mi 5C, Redmi 4X

In contrary to many reports which claim that the Redmi Note 4 won't be getting the Nougat update, we can confirm to you that the Redmi Note 4 will indeed get the Android N upgrade. Nougat based preview builds of MIUI 8 are already being tested by Xiaomi for the Redmi Note 4 and the device is assured of the Nougat upgrade. 

Xiaomi has stated that the rollout of MIUI 9 will begin before August 16. Even if your Xiaomi device isn't listed for the Nougat update, your device is still very likely to get the MIUI 9 update. It's worth noting here that MIUI updates aren't similar to upgrades in the Android version. MIUI is Xiaomi's skin based on Android, just like Samsung's TouchWiz, Sony's XperiaUI and HTC's SenseUI. When Xiaomi releases a new iteration of MIUI, it only changes the user interface; a bump in the Android version may or may not be there. If your Xiaomi device wasn't listed above, it is most likely to receive an update to MIUI retaining an old version of Android.
