[UPDATE: Starting Q4 2017] HTC Confirms Oreo Upgrade For HTC 10, 11 & U Ultra, More Devices To Be Announced Soon

UPDATE August 25, 12:07 IST
HTC has tweeted that the Oreo update will start rolling out in Q4 this year beginning with the U11. The tweet is as follows:

The original post follows.

Google unveiled Android Oreo earlier this week. With each new iteration of Android, device manufacturers start working on bringing the latest Android release (in this case Oreo) to their existing batch of devices in the market. These devices mostly include the ones which were introduced not too long ago. In most cases, major OEMs like HTC update their devices to at least two major Android releases. Hence usually devices are supported by their manufacturers for a minimum period of two years, although that's not always the case.

HTC has announced that it will be bringing Oreo to the one-year old HTC 10 and the recently released duo of U11 and U Ultra. The Android 8.0 update won't only be restricted to just these three devices. HTC plans to update more devices to the latest Android version and a complete list of such devices will be made available soon. As mentioned before, the devices which were launched in the past two years are usually updated by their manufacturer to the latest Android version.

Although HTC hasn't specified any timeline for the update, we can certainly take cues from when HTC released the Nougat update for its devices. Nougat was unveiled by Google on August 22 2016 and Oreo was unveiled on August 22 (earlier this week). Owing to the nearness in the launch dates of the two Android versions we can expect HTC to follow a similar pattern for its Oreo releases as it did in the case of Nougat. HTC rolled out the Android 7.0 update for the unlocked HTC 10 in the US in November last year and followed it with rollouts for carrier locked versions of the device. Verizon affiliated HTC 10s got the update in March-end, Sprint bound ones got it in February and T-Mobile bound HTC 10 received the update in January. We can expect HTC to follow suit and the Oreo update can hence be expected by November.
