'Lawnchair' Launcher Arrives At Play Store

It's been nearly two months since Oreo has been out. Like any other iteration of Android, Oreo is being loved by users and developers alike. In fact, Android developers have been busy making Oreo 8.0 based custom ROMs for the devices they support. Apart from custom ROMs, developers have also been busy back-porting features (like its launcher) from Oreo 8.0 to previous Android versions. What if one can get all the launcher features that Oreo has? Yes, there comes Lawnchair into the story.

Lawnchair is an open source Android launcher based on Launcher3 from AOSP. Lawnchair has all the Android Oreo functionalities (like notification dots, app shortcuts) that work on any Android device without root.

Primarily this launcher was intended to serve the needs of the ever-demanding enthusiast Android communities like the ones on XDA. However, Lawnchair received so much fanfare that the developer decided to upload the app to the Play Store and let everyone try it out. The app is currently unreleased on the Play Store and is only available for testing. If you would like to try out Lawnchair, you can do so by clicking here.

The developer has asked users to note that no features from Pixel 2 have been included yet. The launcher also doesn't support Oreo 8.0 devices. Both of these features would be making their way in future releases. Lawnchair also supports the swipe to access Google Now feature. To obtain that functionality you will have to install Lawnfeed from here.
