Pixel 2 & Pixel 2 XL Will Get Unlimited Storage For Photos In Full Resolution At Least Till The End Of 2020

One of the perks of buying a Pixel 2/XL is the free cloud storage you get for backing up all the photos and videos in their original quality. It is important to note here that the free cloud storage is not valid for lifetime but at least until the end of 2020.

If one will open up the Google Store listing (not country specific) of either the Pixel 2 or the Pixel 2 XL, this is what will be found at the end of the page.

As you can see in the screenshot above, Google will be offering "unlimited original-quality storage for photos and videos taken with the Pixel until 15 Jan. 2021 and high-quality storage for all later uploads." In high-quality uploads, the images and videos will be compressed by Google's servers but will retain most of their detail. Google offers each of its Android users unlimited storage for storing photos and videos in high quality.

The date as till when Pixel 2/XL users will be able to backup their photos and videos in original quality stands to be unclear. The listing of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on the US Google Store mentions "free, unlimited original-quality storage for photos and videos taken with Pixel through the end of 2020, and free, unlimited high-quality storage for photos taken with Pixel afterwards."

It is easy to make out that Google has mentioned different dates in the two cases. We have tried to reach out to Google for a clarification on this ambiguity. In either case though, a Google Pixel 2/XL user will be able to get free cloud storage for the next three years until the end of 2020.
