WhatsApp Emojis Are Now Revamped, Gets Mixed Reactions

WhatsApp has been adding a lot of new features lately. The last time we saw major changes to WhatsApp's user interface was when Status (disappearing stories) were introduced to replace text statuses. The removal of text based status updates drew backlash from the users and WhatsApp surrendered to the criticism and later on rolled back text statuses in the form of 'About'. We know WhatsApp changes the interface rarely but features are being constantly introduced to the app. In the latest development, emojis of the app have been redesigned and they seem to be inspired by the emojis we see in Android Oreo.

If you're a beta tester of the app, you must have seen this change but as far as the stable version is concerned, the emojis are still the old ones there. As we saw in the case of text statuses, changes are not welcomed every time and the new set of emojis are getting mixed reactions from users. If you want to have this set of emojis, you can install WhatsApp beta v2.17.364.

WABetaInfo spot signs of changes to the emojis in a teardown of an earlier beta build of WhatsApp. WABetaInfo thought that WhatsApp would integrate a separate keyboard to incorporate the new emojis. Now that the emojis have shown up in beta v2.17.364, there is no separate keyboard to be found. Therefore if you don't like the new emojis, you should get used to them because there isn't anything you can do to change them (hopefully a Magisk or Xposed module will sort this out).

The new set of emojis are shinier and cartoon-ish and we believe that this is the main reason why the change is not being accepted by everyone but guess it is here to stay. Here's the comparison between the old and new set of emojis.
