Google Releases Second Iteration Of Oreo 8.1 Developer Preview

Google began the testing for Android 8.1 when it dropped the first beta builds last month. The search giant has now released the second developer preview (DP) for Oreo 8.1.

The only change highlighted by Google for DP2 is the inclusion of some new neural network APIs. To refresh your memory, the duo of Pixel 2 and 2 XL ship with a visual processing core which is meant for handling machine learning and image processing tasks. The visual core isn't "activated" yet but Google will be opening it up to third party developers with Oreo 8.1. The developers will be able to "try an early version of the Pixel Visual Core" with this beta release. 

There are several ways using which you can install DP2. The only prerequisite before getting started is to have either of the following devices:

• Pixel 2
• Pixel 2 XL
• Pixel
• Pixel XL
• Pixel C
• Nexus 6P
• Nexus 5X

Google has uploaded the system images of DP2 onto the download portal of Android Developers. You can find the download images for this beta release here. The first way to get on to DP2 is to download the system images and flash it on your device using ADB. The second and the easiest method of the lot is to sign up for Android Beta program. Once enrolled, Google will send an OTA notification of the beta build to your device. Once you tap on the notification, your device will download and install the developer preview all by itself. If you are already running a developer preview, you would be getting a notification of this update soon.

Google expects to release the stable version of Oreo 8.1 in December. Since we are only three days away from closing out November, this should most likely be the last developer preview before the stable release.
