Google Updates Its Search UI With Rounded Corners & A Floating Search Bar For Image Results

Google has tweaked the search design for its mobile website yet again. The last time Google made changes to its mobile layout, it added a hamburger menu to its search pages. This time around Google has made subtle changes which include rounding the corners of the search bar, card results, labels and adding a floating search bar to its image results.

When you will open up the homepage of Google now, you will be able to notice how Google has curved the search bar right at the corners. There aren't any design changes to the search suggestions though.

The card style search results have also been rounded off at the corners. Interestingly, the rounded corners are applicable to only the search results in the "ALL" tab. As you will be able to make out in the image above, the news and video search results have the old search layout. Google has also made some color changes to its user interface such as that of the card background (it's whitish now).

The pagination at the bottom of the search results is also rounded now. There are several updates to the image based search results.

Firstly, there is a floating search bar now. The search bar doesn't float when you are scrolling down the results. It comes into the picture only when you are scrolling above. And this is rightly so, because when you are knee deep into the images and wish to modify the search query, this will come in very handy since you need not go all the way up to the top to change the search query. Moreover, the fact that the search bar doesn't float when you are scrolling down means that the search bar isn't obtrusive most of the times. In my take this is a really well thought feature. Well done Google!

The image above shows another minor update which has been there since sometime now. If this hasn't caught your eye out, let me point it out. The 'Visit', 'Share' and 'Saved' badges are rounded. Previously these badges were as shown below.

This update appears to be rolling out to everyone. I received it on three of my devices in India and other members in the AndroGuider team (in different countries) confirmed the same. If you haven't gotten the update yet it should be coming your way soon.
