[UPDATE: CALLED OFF] OnePlus Begins Rolling Out Oreo 8.0 To OnePlus 5

UPDATE January 3, 2018 10:22 IST:

OnePlus has called off the Oreo update because of a bug. OnePlus has updated the forum page of OxygenOS 5.0 with the following note:

Because of a bug on Oxygen 5.0, we have cancelled its global release. And we're preparing for Oxygen 5.0.1, the partial release will go alive soon.

The original article follows:

It's time to get Christmassy! OnePlus has got a Christmas present for all the OnePlus 5 owners and that is the Oreo based update of OxygenOS 5.0. OnePlus started testing Oreo for the OnePlus 5 last month when it released the first OxygenOS Open Beta for the device. The company quickly followed the first beta build with a second one which was released only last week.

Apart from all the Oreo goodies, this update also includes new features for the calculator, camera, clock, gallery and launcher applications. Here's the changelog:

  • Updated to Android O (8.0)
  • Launcher
    • Optimizations for Shelf
    • Now you can upload your photo through Shot on OnePlus
  • Camera
    • New Camera UI design
    • Optimizations for photo quality
    • Added beauty effect for Portrait Mode
  • Gallery
    • Added “Places” tab for viewing photos on a map
  • Calculator
    • Added history feature
  • Clock
    • Added alarm calendar feature
  • System
    • Added Parallel Apps feature
    • New design for Quick Settings
    • New design for Lift up display
    • Added “Adaptive model" screen calibration
    • Optimizations for Wi-Fi
    • Optimizations for Battery Saver
    • Updated Android security patch to December

Although Google provides a cleaner Settings menu in Oreo 8.0, OnePlus has kept the Settings user interface to as it was in Nougat. This means that OxygenOS 5.0 doesn't have the new Settings menu as present in stock Oreo. The OnePlus 5 will not have support for Project Treble because of the lack of a dedicated vendor partition.

The update size is over 1.5GB. As always, you will have to wait for the OTA notification to reach your device. There are however ways using which you can force the OTA notification to show up. Several users on the OnePlus forums reported that they got the update notification instantly when they changed their country to Germany in OperaVPN. If this method doesn't work for you, you can install the update manually using the links given below.
