Namaste! Google Assistant Is Now Available In Hindi For Marshmallow 6.0+

Lately, Google has been paying close attention to the Indian market and has been building products catered specifically for it. At the Google for India event last year, Google unveiled a slew of products made with India in mind. Android Oreo Go Edition - the lite version of Android Oreo - was introduced to power lower end devices. Google also brought a two-wheeler mode to Maps so that the millions of bikers in India can navigate without hassles. Now, Google has announced support for Hindi language in Assistant.

Hindi ranks as the fifth most spoken language in the world, and it's the most spoken language in India. Assistant was first made available in Hindi with Allo in December of 2016. One year after that, a specialized version of Assistant (Hindi+English) was launched onboard the JioPhone. Google is now rolling out Assistant in Hindi to all Android devices running Marshmallow 6.0 or higher. Assistant will soon be available in Hindi on devices running Lollipop, Android Oreo Go Edition, and iOS 9.1 or newer (iPhones only).

Google shared a handful of example commands which Hindi speakers will be able to make use of. We have mentioned the same below. You can check out the exhaustive list of commands here.

  • “Sabse kareeb Punjabi restaurant kahaan hain?“
  • “Dadar tak pahunchne mein kitna samay lagega?“
  • “Cricket ka score kya hain?“
  • “Kal subah mujhe saat baje jagaao“
  • “Selfie kheencho“
  • “Daddy ko SMS bhejo "5 minutes mein pahunchenge"

To be able to use Assistant in Hindi, you need to have the latest version of Google app, and Hindi must be set as the default language of your device. You can change the default language by heading over to Settings > Languages & input > Languages > Add a language > à¤¹िंदी(भारत). Make sure that Hindi is set to as the primary language.
