Latest OxygenOS Open Beta For OnePlus 5/5T Brings Improvements To Camera Clarity, Optimizations To Reduce Oil Painting Effect & More

OnePlus has posted new OxygenOS Open Beta builds for its flagship smartphones from last year. Several OP5 and OP5T users have complained about the pictures taken with the stock camera application having an 'oil painting effect' on them. This beta update includes optimizations to reduce that effect. Additionally, there are improvements to the camera clarity and OnePlus Switch application. The security patches for June are also present.

The changelog is given below.

Changelog

System
Updated Android security patch to June 2018

OnePlus Switch
General bug fixes and improved data transfer stability

Camera
Camera clarity improvement and optimizations to reduce "oil painting effect"

A user on the OnePlus forums posted some pictures which were taken with a OnePlus 5 on Open Beta 11 and Open Beta 12. Here's a side-by-side comparison.

The image on the left was taken on Open Beta 11, and the one on the right was captured on Open Beta 12. The oil painting effect isn't visible in either the OB11 or OB12 image. However, the OB12 shot has more details. The leaf margins, midrib and veins have more details in the OB12 image.

As always, existing beta users will be getting an update for this build. Others can install the beta version of OxygenOS by following the instructions linked in the source. It is worth noting here that after shifting to the Open Beta builds, you will not get any stable updates. The beta users only get updates of subsequent beta builds. Moving back to the stable OxygenOS will require a wipe of the data partition which will erase all application data, contacts, call logs and messages.
