Unlocked Variants Of Moto Z In The US Have Started Receiving Nougat 7.0 OTA
Motorola had started the initial rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Moto Z back in December last year. The update was seeded to unlocked variants of the Moto Z in India, Canada, Mexico and Italy. Surprisingly, the unlocked variants of the device in the US were not treated with the Nougat update, while carrier locked models of the Moto Z got the update.
The reason as to why the update was not extended to the unlocked models of the Moto Z in the US still remains unknown, however some speculations suggested that Motorola has a time exclusivity deal with the American carriers. This, however, is still a widely accepted notion. Anyhow, Motorola had promised that it would be rolling out Android 7.0 to all the Moto Z users by February.
Keeping it's word, Motorola has now started rolling out the update. Several users have reported of receiving the update. The build number of this update is NPL25.86-17-3. As weird as this may sound, the security patch level of the update is November 1, 2016, a user has told AndroGuider. Considering that the Moto G 2014 had received the September 2016 security patch last month only, this is not a big surprise. Motorola had promised that it will be rolling out security patches to it's devices on quarterly basis. We thus hope that when the next update for the Mpto Z comes up, it will have the latest Android 7.1.2 along with a security patch of Motorola's choice.
