OnePlus 3/3T Get First Android Oreo Based Open Beta

Unlike the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus 3 and 3T will be getting their second major Android upgrade in the form of Oreo 8.0. OnePlus has now released the first Oreo based Open Beta build for 3 & 3T in light of its promise of updating the two devices to Oreo before the end of the year. Through the means of its Open Beta program, OnePlus intends to involve the community in the development of OxygenOS by asking them for feedback and bug reports.

Apart from the inclusion of all the Oreo based features, there are some changes to the launcher. The OnePlus launcher now supports Notification Dots. Notification Dots are a new way to handle your notifications. If there is a notification from an app, then the app icon in the launcher will be accompanied by a dot in its top right corner. When you will long press on the app icon, you will get access to the app shortcuts along with the app notification. The image below shows notification dots in works.

Here is the complete list of changes for this OxygenOS Open Beta build.

  • System changes
    • Update to Android O (8.0)
      • Added Picture in Picture
      • Added Auto-fill
      • Added Smart text selection
      • New Quick Settings design
      • September security patch
  • Launcher changes
    • Added Notification dots in Launcher
    • Added OnePlus account login for access to Shot on OnePlus
      • Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus through wallpapers

Since this is the first Oreo based build, there are some bugs. You may face issues with app performance, fingerprint scanner (it works, but it may be slower), NFC and Bluetooth.

OxygenOS Open Beta is currently being rolled out to the OnePlus 3/3T via an update. If you are using an old Open Beta build on your 3/3T, you would be getting an update notification soon. You can also flash the update manually using the links given at the end of this post. If after upgrading to Oreo you wish to move back to Nougat, then OnePlus has uploaded special builds for that. We encourage you to read the forum thread linked in the source for detailed instructions on how to downgrade to Nougat.
