Sony's new smartwatch has an e-ink display and band

Sony introduced the customizable FES Watch with e-paper display two years ago, and now it has launched its successor called FES Watch U using its own First Flight crowdfunding platform in Japan for funding the watch.

The refreshed FES Watch U comes with an e-ink display and e-ink bands which can be customized using a companion app on your smartphone. It pairs with the smartphones running iOS 9 or higher (no Android) via Bluetooth and lets users change the watch face and band style. Initially, there will be 12 design available, but more will be added in near future. You will also be able to store 24 different designs on your watch.

The watch features steel body, IPX5/IPX7 rating for water resistant, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, and offers up to three weeks of battery life. It comes in White, Silver and Premium Back hues. The Premium Black model gets a layer of scratch resistant sapphire glass on top of the display.

The Sony FES Watch U price starts at ¥ 44,710 ($438 | Rs. 30,000) and is available for pre-order from First Flight. If the crowdfunding goal is met, shipping of the watch will begin April 2017.
