Samsung Galaxy S8 front camera will reportedly have auto-focus

With each day passing, we are getting to know more details of Samsung's upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8. The fresh details is regarding the Galaxy S8's front facing camera. The South Korean tech giant has already confirmed that the Galaxy S8 will feature an improved camera.

Now Korean news site Etnews reports that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will sport an auto-focus front facing camera to increase the quality of selfie photos, which is a rare feature on smartphone. The Sony Xperia XA and HTC Desire Eye are few smartphones to feature an auto-foucs lens on the front. Usually auto-focus is mainly available on the smartphone's main camera.

The report further mentions that Samsung will integrate an encoder-type AF actuator on the Galaxy S8 for auto-focusing tasks, as it will allow for slimmer camera modules.

Currently it is not known how many megapixels the Galaxy S8 front camera will have. For reference, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 7 featured a 5MP front camera. However, since Apple has upgraded the front facing camera on iPhone 7, it is possible Samsung will also make similar tweaks to the front camera unit.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be unveiled at MWC 2017, that takes place in Feruary end.
