Latest LineageOS Weekly Brings One Handed Mode, Support For More Devices

The last Sunday saw the fifth round of weeklies of LineageOS being released. Just like every week, LineageOS have posted a changelog common to all the officially supported devices. The changelog states the list of changes which have been introduced over the last round of weekly builds.

One of the new and interesting feature introduced this week is the single handed mode. With the screen displays getting bigger and bigger, it becomes very tough for a smartphone user to access the various sections of the display with one hand. The single handed mode is aimed at solving this problem.

As showcased in the video above, single handed mode will shrink the display region to a corner of the screen. This will make it easier for the user to use the phone with just one hand. The single handed mode feature will be available in all the LineageOS builds dated 6 March 2017 and newer. To enable the one handed mode on devices with on-screen navigation bar keys, you need to simply swipe either to the left or right from the home button. The screen display will be restricted to the corner you swipe to. On devices with hardware keys, the single handed mode can be enabled by setting a trigger in 'Settings > Buttons'.

The following new devices have been added to the official build roster:

  • Lenovo Zuk Z1 (ham, LineageOS 14.1)
  • Verizon LG G3 (vs985, LineageOS 14.1)
  • Samsung Galaxy Nexus - GSM (maguro), Verizon (toro), Sprint (toroplus) [LineageOS 13.0]
