OnePlus 3 with 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 820 SoC, 6GB RAM gets official

OnePlus made its debut in 2014, and with just three smartphone in their portfolio, the Chinese smartphone maker has managed to build enough hype around the brand and its smartphone. The company's first smartphone, the OnePlus One grabbed the title of flagship killer as is offered flagship-level specs at an affordable price. This was followed by the sequel OnePlus 2, which had the same ingredients as its predecessor, but did not taste the same success as the OnePlus One. The company also released the compact 5-inch OnePlus X, again loaded with specs at an unbelievable price. And now in 2016, OnePlus has unleashed its latest flagship killer, the One Plus 3, which aims to cripple flagship smartphone segment on a global level.

The OnePlus 3 sports an all-metal design build carved out of single slab of space-grade aluminum alloy, and the body is 7.35mm thick. OnePlus' signature Alert Slider that made its debut with OnePlus 2 is also present on the side, that gives you direct access to Android's notification settings. The fingerprint scanner is located below the screen integrated into the home button and promises to unlock the device in 0.03 seconds.

The OnePlus 3 comes with 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Optic AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 4, and is powered by Qualcomm's top-of-the line Snapdragon 820 SoC backed by Adreno 530 GPU and 6GB RAM. On-board storage is 64GB and is non expandable.

For photography, it gets 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 rear camera with LED flash, 1.12 micron pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (phase detection auto focus), OIS (optical image stabilization). The rear camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30 fps, as well as slow motion at 720p and 120 fps.. For selfies and video calls, there's 8-megapixel Sony IMX179 front camera with 1.4 micron pixel size, f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording.

It runs Oxygen OS 3.0 based on Android Marshmallow, has dual-SIM slots and support s4G LTE (including FDD-LTE band 3 and TDD-LTE band 40), WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, USB Type-C port and GPS connectivity. It is fueled by 3000mAh battery with Dash Charge technology for quick charging, promising 60 percent charge in 30 minutes.

Coming to the pricing, the OnePlus 3 comes in Graphite and Soft Gold colors, and is priced at Rs. 27,999 in India, $399 in the U.S and 399 Euros in Europe. The Graphite colored version will be available in India exclusively from Amazon IN starting June 15 at 12:30am IST. OnePlus is also offering goodies with OnePlus 3 as part of launch offer. These include a year’s subscription to Saavn Pro, accidental damage protection for a year, double data benefits to Idea subscribers for a year, and Rs. 500 promotional credit on the Amazon Kindle app.

The biggest competitor to OnePlus 3 in India will be the LeEco Max 2, which offers almost similar specs, but is priced higher at Rs. 29,999. However, OnePlus 3 will get a head start, as it goes on sale from June 15, whereas the Le Max 2 will go on sale by end of this month. Other contenders include Xiaomi's Mi 5 and Asus' upcoming ZenFone 3.
