Google Pixel, Pixel XL officially announced, pre-order begins October 13 in India

Goodbye Nexus. Hello Pixel.

Google today officially took the wraps off its latest duo of flagship smartphones: the Pixel and Pixel XL.

The phone's sport 'G' branding instead of Nexus/manufacturer logo and is marketing the Pixel phones as "phones by Google", which means Google had more control over the hardware and software this time in addition to software. It's worth mentioning that HTC manufactured both the Pixel phones.

The Pixel and Pixel XL are the first phones to run Android 7.1 Nougat with brand new home screen UI, get Google Assistant integration and are Daydream VR ready as well.

Both the phones are basically same in terms of design and specs, but differ in screen size (and overall size) and battery capacity. The Pixel features a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display and 2770mAh battery, while the Pixel XL has a bigger 5.5-inch AMOLED Quad HD display and 3450mAh battery.

Both Pixel phones are powered by Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4GB RAM along with 32GB/128GB internal storage. For photography, it has 12.3-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front facing camera.

Google touts the Pixel has the "best smartphone camera ever", as it has received a score of 89 from DXOMark topping iPhone 7, HTC 10, Samsung Galaxy Galaxy S7/S7 edge and Sony Xperia Performance.

Other features include fingerprint scanner at the back, Qualcomm's Quick charging technology, WiFi 802.11ac, 4G LTE, NFC and USB Type-C port. It comes in Quite Black, Really Blue and Very Silver color options.
