CyanogenMod Dies 'Preponed' Death, Says Early Goodbye

CyanogenMod is dead, earlier than anticipated. We knew that Cyanogen would be killing CyanogenMod before the year's end, that is, before the 31st, but we were certainly not expecting this kind of timing. In fact, most of us believed that CyanogenMod would be culminated on the 31st only. But here is a reminder of the statement Cyanogen had issued:

As part of the ongoing consolidation of Cyanogen, all services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued no later than 12/31/16.

Even if the project had to be discontinued before 31st, why choose Christmas to call off the most popular project in Android's history. This definitely ruins that Christmassy feeling. The calling off comes a day after LineageOS had confirmed that they will be continuing from where CyanogenMod left off in a blog post.

But as they say, death waits for none. Though we are being sarcastic here but the news itself is dramatic enough to bring it in such a way. We told this elaborately yesterday, but today brings a different story.

This tweet came in and shocked everyone. The two pillars of DNS & Gerrit that had been holding the fortress of CyanogenMod together, lost their souls earlier in the morning today. As we had told you yesterday, Cyanogen was going to dismantle both the Gerrit and Jenkins of CyanogenMod eventually, but again it's the timing of the announcement that comes as a shocker. However, since LineageOS is already under works, it's Gerrit will appear and eventually will result in the coming up of Jenkins too.

Yeah, so, adios to the savage for many and let's hope for LineageOS to come with the same spirit that Cyanogen left with.

RIP Buddy!
