Apple iPhone X goes official with bezel-less design, Face ID

Apple has finally set foot into the bezel-less territory, with its most advance futuristic iPhone ever, the iPhone X (pronounced iPhone Ten). The iPhone X brings the most radical design change to the iPhone and slew of interesting features. It is also Apple's first iPhone with an OLED display and without physical button.

Starting with the design, the iPhone X flaunts slim bezels on all sides, but has a huge cut out at the top to house the front camera and camera sensors. It also ditches the traditional full aluminum body, for a new water and dust resistant all glass design with surgical-grade stainless steel around the sides. The use of glass also enables wireless charging function on iPhone X.

The iPhone X also ditches the Home Button, and the Touch ID fingerprint sensor is replaced by a new TrueDepth camera for facial recognition technology called Face ID. The TrueDepth camera system made up of a dot projector, infrared camera and flood illuminator, and is powered by A11 Bionic to accurately map and recognize a face. Apple claims iPhone's X Face ID can detect your face even in the dark, and it can't be fooled by photos, masks or even models of your head. It can also be used to secure apps and make payments via Apple Pay.

Another highlighting feature of the TrueDepth camera is that it brings emoji to life in a new fun way with Animoji. To create an Animoji, the TrueDepth camera captures and analyzes over 50 different facial muscle movements, then animates those expressions in a dozen different Animoji, including a panda, unicorn and robot. It is available in iMessage, and users can record and send Animoji messages with their voice and facial expressions.

Moving on, the iPhone X features a 5.8-inch OLED 'Super Retina' display bearing the resolution 2436 x 1125 pixels, translating to 458ppi. It is also integrated with Apple's 3D touch technology and supports HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. However, there is no home or virtual buttons for navigation. Instead users will have to navigate using gestures  like swipe up from bottom to go to home screen or swipe up and pause for a second to access multi-tasking menu. Siri can be accessed by giving a voice command or pressing the power button.

The performance of iPhone X is handled by the new powerful and faster hexa-core A11 Bionic chipset, same as iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The A11 Bionic chip has two high-performance cores that 25 percent faster than A10 chip, and four high-efficiency core that offer a 70 percent improvement. It will also be available with 64GB and 256GB storage options.

Similar to iPhone 8, the iPhone X has dual-cameras aligned in a vertical layout, and still feature two 12MP sensors, one with f/1.8 wide-angle lens, and the other with f/2.4 telephoto lens, with the added Dual OIS functionality. They also have the same camera functions like portrait lighting and support for augmented reality. It has 7MP face time camera at the front. The front camera also gets Portrait mode allowing for stunning selfies with a depth-of-field effect.

Apple promises the iPhone X offers two hours of additional battery life compared to iPhone 7. In terms of connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, LTE and WiFi 802.11ac. Color options are Silver and Space Gray.

The Apple iPhone X has been priced at $999 for the 64GB model, and $1149 for the 256GB model. It will be up for pre-order starting October 27, and hit the shelves November 3.
