Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018) stars in hands-on video

Before the grand unveiling of Galaxy S9/S9+, Samsung is expected to launch the 2018 edition of the mid-range Galaxy A and Galaxy J series phones. They have been part of several leaks for quite some time, but the latest leak is related to the Galaxy A (2018) models.

Starting with the names of the Galaxy A8 (2018) models, the phones were earlier called Galaxy A5 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018). However, the phones were recently spotted on Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s (Bluetooth SIG) online database, and revealed that the Galaxy A5 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018) will launch as Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ respectively.

Having said that, in the latest leak, a hands-on video of the Galaxy A8+ has hit the interweb which originates from Bangladesh. The video reveals the design and complete specs sheet of the Galaxy A8+.

The Galaxy A series is known to bring the premium design of the flagship Galaxy S to the budget segment. And this time nothing has changed.

As seen in the video, the Galaxy A8+ flaunts the Infinity display, which debut on the Galaxy S8. This means the phone will have minimal bezels on the sides, and a large screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. However, the phone has undergone some design tweaks.

The Galaxy A8+ will have dual front facing camera, instead of single camera found on Galaxy S8. Also the fingerprint scanner at the rear panel will be located below the camera sensor, instead of being right of the camera.

The design of the Galaxy A8 (2018) is likely to be same as Galaxy A8+, but it is expected to come with a smaller display and slightly different specs sheet. For example smaller display, less RAM.

Speaking about the specs, according to the source, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) will feature a large 6-inch Super AMOLED Infinity display with minimal bezels on the sides, and 2200 x 1080p resolution. It will be equipped with 2.2GHz Exynos 7885 octa-core processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, microSD card card slot and 3500mAh battery.

The dual-selfie camera unit on the front houses a 16MP and 8MP sensor, while the main camera at the rear is a single 16MP unit.

It will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, and also have features lie IP68 water and dust resistance, NFC, USB Type-C port, fingerprint scanner and fast charging.

Meanwhile, the manual of Galaxy A8+ (2018) was spotted on Samsung website, which confirms some of the above details and a few more. Since the phone has two cameras at the front, the camera app will come with Live Focus feature for selfie and also get live stickers. Bixby will also be part of the device, but it will not have dedicated button.

Other details the manual confirm is the presence of Infinity display, on-screen navigation, LED notification light, support for Samsung pay over NFC and MST and USB Type-C on Galaxy A8+.  You can find the complete manual at this (link) .

Currently it is not known when Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy A (2018) models. But going by earlier time frame, the phones are likely to debut later this month or at CES 2018 in January.
