LG V30S ThinQ Is An LG V30 With Camera AI, More Storage & Bumped Up RAM

In monetary terms, LG's mobile business has been going downhill. LG's mobile division hasn't turned up profits more than once since the last eight quarters. Last year at MWC 2017, LG unveiled the G6. Rumors have been doing the rounds that LG has scrapped the existing development of the G7 and the G7 will be released with a "new design" in June. Although none of the rumors have been confirmed to be true, we know for sure that the G7 won't be unveiled at the ongoing MWC 2018. For MWC 2018, LG has announced the V30S ThinQ.

The V30S ThinQ is a slightly upgraded version of last year's V30. As compared to the V30, the V30S ThinQ has 6GB RAM, 128/256GB internal storage (like the V30, the V30S has support for expandable storage) and camera AI.  Apart from the aforementioned changes, everything else is common between the V30 and V30S ThinQ.

The V30S ThinQ has two new camera modes - CAM AI and QLens. As the name suggests, CAM AI stands for camera AI. It uses machine learning to identify the subject you are trying to take a photo of and then attunes the image settings accordingly. For example, if the subject is a person, the image settings would be set to that of a portrait mode. The V30S also allows you to perform a reverse image search. QLens on the other hand is designed to perform reverse image search. QLens will try to figure out the subject in the picture and search for it on Amazon and Pinterest. Android Authority tested out the QLens on a bottle of wine and a book. QLens was able to identify the book and gave an option for purchasing it; however it wasn't able to recognize the particular bottle of wine and ended up loading Amazon suggestions for wines from different brands.

The camera also has a 'bright mode' for taking low light shots. Herein the 16MP rear camera acts as a 4MP sensor, meaning that the light captured by the 16MP sensor is divided into four groups. LG says that this lets more light into the sensor and when the light captured from the four different groups is combined it should result into better low light image shots. The result is a 4MP image with more detail.

The specifications as obtained from LG's press release are mentioned below. It's worth noting that the V30S runs Oreo out of the box, which should mean that it supports Project Treble.
