Essential Releases Android 9 Pie Update For PH-1 Within Minutes Of Google's Announcement, OTA & Factory Images Available

If there's one thing we have come to love about Essential, it's the fast updates. The Andy Rubin founded company has made it a habit to release Android updates for its sole phone, the PH-1, within minutes after Google's Pixel smartphones get it. Today was no different. Google announced Android Pie a couple of minutes back, and Essential was quick to follow. The PH-1 is now getting its Android 9 Pie update.

The update is rolling out to both Android Oreo and Android P beta users. In addition to the update rollout, Essential has also posted the OTA and factory images for those who are interested in sideloading the update. The images can be found here.

We aren't sure about the inclusion of the August security patch, but going by Essential's standards, it should be present. Since OTA updates are rolled out in phases, it might take a while for the update to reach your Essential Phone. That said, the update has already started to reach consumers.
