Instagram Finally Lets You Add Tagged Posts to Your Profile Grid

Instagram Finally Lets You Add Tagged Posts to Your Profile Grid

TL;DR

  • Instagram now lets you add photos and videos you're tagged in directly to your main profile grid, not just your Tagged tab.
  • The feature is rolling out globally on iOS and Android and works for both photos and Reels collaborations.
  • It's a major win for creators, brands, and businesses who want more control over visibility, social proof, and profile curation.

What Changed and Why Everyone Wanted It

For years, being tagged on Instagram was a mixed blessing. You'd get tagged in a great photo from a shoot, an event, a brand collab, or a viral Reel, but that content would be buried in the Tagged tab - a section most profile visitors never check. Your main grid stayed pristine, but you lost out on visibility.

That's finally changing. Instagram's new feature allows any user to move content from their Tagged tab directly to their main profile grid with just a couple of taps. Once added, the post appears on your profile just like one of your own uploads, while still crediting the original poster.

It's a small tweak with huge implications for how profiles look and function.

How It Works

The concept is simple: if you're tagged in someone else's public post, you can now choose to showcase it front and center.

When you approve a tagged post to appear on your profile, you'll see a new option to Add to profile grid. Tap it, and that photo, carousel, or Reel will instantly show up alongside your own posts in chronological order based on its original posting date - not the date you added it.

The original creator still owns the post. Likes, comments, view counts, and captions stay synced. If they delete the post or remove your tag, it disappears from your grid automatically. If you change your mind, you can remove it from your grid at any time without untagging yourself, and it will go back to living only in your Tagged tab.

How to Add a Tagged Post to Your Grid

Using the feature takes less than 10 seconds:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the Tagged icon (the little person-in-a-box tab on the right side of your grid).
  2. Find the photo or video you want to feature and open it.
  3. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner, or tap your username tag on the post.
  4. Select Add to profile grid and confirm.

That's it. The post will now appear on your main grid with a small tagged-person icon to indicate it's a collaboration, not an original upload.

To remove it later, just open the post from your grid, tap the three dots, and choose Remove from profile grid.

Note: You need to have the latest version of the Instagram app, and both accounts need to have public or mutually-following settings that allow tagging. Some users are getting the rollout in stages, so if you don't see it yet, check for an app update.

A Game-Changer for Creators and Collaborations

For creators, this is arguably one of Instagram's most requested quality-of-life updates ever.

Photographers can now feature client work on their own portfolio grid without needing to repost and lose engagement. Models, musicians, athletes, and influencers can curate event appearances, magazine features, and fan content right into their main aesthetic. No more screenshots, no more re-uploads, no more "repost to grid" workarounds that split likes in two.

For collab posts, it's even more powerful. Previously, only the original author got the full grid benefit unless they used Instagram's Collab invite feature. Now, even a simple tag can become grid-worthy exposure.

Why Brands and Businesses Should Pay Attention

Brands are set to benefit the most. Think about it: user-generated content, influencer unboxings, customer reviews, and in-the-wild product shots can now live directly on a brand's official grid.

Instead of a brand profile that only shows polished studio shots, companies can blend authentic tagged content into their main feed for instant social proof. A restaurant can showcase a food blogger's Reel. A clothing label can add a customer's outfit photo. A hotel can feature a travel creator's carousel - all without asking for the original file or reposting.

Marketers say this will make Instagram profiles feel more dynamic and trustworthy, while also giving smaller creators extra incentive to tag brands, knowing they have a real shot at landing on that brand's main grid.

What It Means for Your Profile Strategy

This update blurs the line between "my posts" and "posts I'm in" - and that's a good thing.

Expect to see more curated, collaborative grids in the coming months. Creators will likely become more selective about which tags they approve, since every approval is now a potential grid placement. Experts recommend doing a quick audit of your Tagged tab now, removing old or off-brand tags before they become grid candidates, and proactively asking collaborators to tag you.

Instagram hasn't said if there will be a limit to how many tagged posts you can pin to your grid, but for now, it appears unlimited.

In a platform era dominated by Reels and algorithmic discovery, giving users more control over their own profile real estate feels like a throwback - in the best way possible. Your grid is your resume, and now you finally get to include your references.
