WhatsApp's 'Voice-Calling' Feature Now Available For Select Users In India
Popular messaging app WhatsApp has been teasing about introduction of call feature in their app for sometime now and was supposed to come out early January.
Now, it looks like WhatsApp has started rolling out the update already.A Reddit user posted screen shots of the update whatsApp app with voice calling feature. He got the new feature of the whatsapp and also managed to make some calls to a few people in India, but the feature does not work with all users. The user was able to use the feature on his Nexus 5 running Android Lollipop.
The user says "Its like an invite thing where a person with the call feature need to "call" another person who wants to start using the feature."
"I can't seem to send invites to other people, the only thing I can ensure is that it works in India for
people running Lollipop 5.0.x on a Nexus 5. Other Indians without the earlier combo don't get it," he added.
The calling feature is included in WhatsApp's new build version 2.11.508 which is directly available on WhatsApp wesbite. Users will need to download the .apk file and side-load it to your device, until the update is officially rolled out.
The new update brings a new tab for the voice calling feature which include Chat, Contacts and Calls. The UI of the app is similar to what we have seen in the previous
leaks.
The new call feature will allow users to make call to their WhatsApp contact. This feature is similar to other popular instant messaging apps like Skype and Viber.
There is no official announcement of the new voice calling feature from WhatsApp, however if what the Reddit user says is true, we can expect that the company will start rolling the new update soon.
Last month, WhatsApp added a new feature that allows users experience WhatsApp on web.
