Pebble Time Kickstarter campaign ends, raises over $20 million


Ever since it made its debut on Kickstarter, Pebble Time smartwatch has been the centre of atrraction. It has become on of the most successful crowd funded campaign on kickstarter. The goal was to reach $500,000 (Rs. 3 crores) and just within half an hour it smashed through the funding goal.

The crowdfunding campaign for Pebble Watch ended on March 28 raising $20,388,986 (Rs. 123 crores)  more than 40 times the goal from 78,471 backers. It shattered two Kickstarter records, the first on its debut where it raised $1 million in just 49 minutes and the second the following week when it became kickstarter's most funded campaign.

Pebble CEO, Eric Migicovsky said “We cannot thank the Pebble community enough for their monumental support. We continue to listen to and be inspired by the backers who believed in us and supported our vision from day one.”  

For early backers the Pebble Time was priced $159 and $179, and will be shipped in May or June. When it lands on the retail stores it will be priced $199 (Rs. 12,000)

The Pebble Time features color e-paper display that is made out of Gorilla Glass with the bezel being made of stainless steel and is also water resistant. It has a battery life of 7 days without the display ever going dark to save power. The smartwatch is compatible with Android 4.0 and above phones and Apple devices running iOS 8.

The smartwatch has a microphone that lets you send voice replies for notifications or take short voice notes. On Android sending voice replies work with apps like SMS, Hangouts, G mail, FB Messenger, Whatsapp and many more. For iOS voice replies are currently limited to G mail notification , the company will add more apps in the future.
