WhatsApp to get video calling support

Soon you'll be able to make video calls via Whatsapp. A leaked screen shot has appeared online (via) that shows WhatsApp for iOS having video calling support built-in.

As per the images, users will be able to mute their microphone as well as switch camera during video call. Similar to voice calling feature on WhatsApp, the video calling interface will also have accept and decline calls button, with an image of the person making the video call. Video calls can be made via WiFi or cellular data connection.

The new feature is being tested internally, and will be released to the public in the coming weeks, making its way to iPhones first. The report said that the video calling feature is coming to iOS with the version v2.12.16.2. Interestingly, around same time last year, the voice calling feature was leaked online and was rolled out to Android devices in March 2015. We can expect the video calling feature to be released in Q1 2016.

In addition, it is being reported that WhatsApp will soon release an update with revamped UI, which will bring tab-based user interface to make switching between conversations much easier.
