Microsoft's Phone Sign-in app, lets you unlock a Windows 10 PC using your phone

Microsoft is testing a new app called 'Phone Sign-in beta' that uses your phone's Bluetooth connectivity to unlock Windows 10 PCs. The new app is being tested by Microsoft internally only for Windows 10 Mobile.

With the app, Windows 10 Mobile users will be able to sync their device with Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth, so that they can easily unlock their PC. The app aims to eliminate the process of manually adding a password at the time of unlocking the PC.

The Windows Store listing mentions that the Authenticator app in beta and upcoming versions will include support for Microsoft account, a sign-in solution for browsers and VPN, OTP (one-time-password) generation and MFA approval through notification.

Microsoft has been testing new ways to secure and unlock Windows 10 PCs. Currently Windows 10 PCs can be logged in via Windows Hello, fingerprint scanner and the traditional password way.

We can also expect the Phone Sign In app to make its way to Android and iOS platform as well in the near future.
