Google Play store and its Android apps could soon come to Chrome OS

Google might finally bring its million Android app on the Chrome OS, giving the desktop OS access to Google Play. A Reddit user spotted an option to run Android apps on Chrome OS version 51, which is being tested on Chromebook, and is restricted to Developer Channel only.

Under the setting menu on Chrome OS 51, there is a small checkbox at the bottom that says " Enable Android apps to run on your Chromebook", alongside a window that says "Google Play store now on your Chromebook. Choose from over a million apps and games on Google Play to install and use on your Chromebook". Developers who have enabled the option say that it shows a tutorial before closing automatically.

Earlier Google launched ARC (App Runtime for Chrome) which allowed select developers to port their Android apps (Duolingo, Evernote, Vine and Sight Words) to Chrome OS, but the new feature could mean that all the Android apps that are available in the Playstore, will soon run on Chome OS.

We'll get to know more about this feature at the upcoming Google I/O conference in May.
