Samsung's new software update for Galaxy Note 7 to limit risk of battery exploding

Following several Galaxy Note7 exploding battery (while charging) incidence, Samsung suspended the sales of the phone and announced a global recall. Recently Samsung urged Galaxy Note7 owners to stop using the phone, and take part in the replacement program. However, Now according to a new report, Samsung is working on a new update to fix the exploding battery issue, for those who are still using the Galaxy Note7.

The report says that Samsung is working on a software update that will limit the affected Galaxy Note 7's battery recharge to under 60 percent (2100mAh out of total 3500mAh battery capacity), which will prevent it from overheating while charging and hopefully avoid the blast.

Samsung is working with Korean carriers to prepare the update, which is planned to be released starting September 20. Currently it is not clear when the update will be rolled out world-wide.

Samsung recalled 2.5 million Galaxy Note7's after several cases of the phone’s battery exploding were reported. The company plans to start issuing new Galaxy Note 7 starting from September 19. In India, the Galaxy Note 7 is expected to be released by the end of this month.

It's also worth mentioning that all the Galaxy Note 7 that have been verified and are safe for use, will have a 'S' marking. Samsung Australia said “New Galaxy Note7 packaging has clear identifiers on the box; a small black square on the white barcode label along with a white sticker with a blue letter ‘S’.”
