Video calling feature goes live in WhatsApp beta for Android

Just a few days back WhatsApp added video calling function on its beta app for Windows Phone devices. Now according to Android Police the feature is available for Android devices as well.

The video calling feature is currently in beta and does not require update from the PlayStore, as long as you're on the recent beta version (v2.16.318)

The video calling feature can be accessed from the call tab, call log or within the conversation windows by selecting call icons, which allows users to choose between voice calls and video calls. In the profile info of your contacts, the video calling icon will also appear besides messaging and voice calling.

It's worth mentioning that, for the video calling feature to work, both parties should be on the Beta channel. Otherwise you'll get the following message: "Couldn't place call. Recipient [name of contact being called] needs to update WhatsApp to receive video calls."

If you're on WhatsApp beta for Android and voice calling feature is still not activated, try wiping the app data and log in again (it works). Make sure to back up your WhatsApp data first.
