Android Nougat adoption hits 1.2 percent, Lollipop still on top

Android's latest distribution numbers for the month of February are out and Nougat has just crossed the one percent mark. Not a big achievement, but a significant one, given the fact the there are one billion smartphones out there.

According to the latest data, Google's latest and greatest mobile operating system Andrioid Nougat adoption rate has hit 1.2 percent five months after it's release, up by 0.5 percent from January. This isn't a surprise as most of the flagships of 2016 are being updated to Nougat. Moreover, Huawei, HTC and few other smartphones released recently, ship with Android Nougat.

Nougat's predecessor Marshmallow continues to rise and saw an 1.1 percent increase to 30.7 percent, and is yet to over take Lollipop (5.0/5.1), which still rules the chart at 32.9 percent, however, it is down 0.5 percent than last month. We can expect Marshmallow to dethrone Lollipop within the next two or three months.

Older versions of Android continued to decline with Kitkat (4.4) grabbing 21.9 percent share, down 0.7 percent compared to last month while Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2, 4.3) is present in 11.3 percent of active devices, down 0.1 percent.  Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) and Android Gingerbread (2.3) are flat at one percent.
