Google Maps gets real-time location sharing feature

Google is updating its Maps app for Android and iOS adding a new real-time location sharing feature, which will make it easier for users to share their locations.

Post the update, you will be able to share your location with your contacts by simply sliding down the side menu or tapping the blue dot, that represents where you are on Maps app. Then tap on the 'Share Location' and select with whom to share the location with and how long to share.

The location will be shared as a link on your favorite messenger app, and the person with whom you have shared the location will see you on their map. An icon will be visible above the compass on your Map to remind you that you are actively sharing your location. You can even stop sharing your location at any given time.

Users will also have the option of sharing their trips along with details like expected arrival time, location as well as their journey towards their destination. This can be done by tapping on the 'More' icon at the bottom of the navigation screen, and then tapping "Share Trip". The sharing will automatically end once the users has reached the destination.

The update will be rolling out worldwide in the coming week.
