App Review - Crash of Cars

There are a great any games on the Google Play Store, each with their own style of game play and appeal. Few games, however, can boast the ability to strap a missile launcher to your car. NotDoppler has released a game titled Crash of Cars. It’s a multiplayer demolition derby which has you at the wheel, smashing your way through the competition. Does this game have what it takes to rev your engines, or is it just not firing on all cylinders? Let’s find out in this review.

Gameplay is fairly simple. There are three primary controls: two to turn your vehicle, and one to use your weapon; the perfect combination for causing some chaos. When you start a round, you are tossed at random to one of eight unique locations. Your car accelerates automatically and you hold down on the left and right sides of the screen to turn. There are two goals that you ultimately have in each round: collect as many crowns as you can, and tear your way through as many of the other vehicles as you can. Throughout the stage, there are the golden crowns that you collect. They pop up at random throughout the stage, and they’re also left behind after a player gets destroyed. The more crowns you collect, the more coins you collect at the end of the round. Dotted along the stage are boxes with question marks on them; these are the weapons that you can use. The weapons are chosen at random in Mario Kart style. You have a wide selection of absurd and over the top weapons that you use to pulverize your enemies. Fight until you are eventually destroyed, then jump right back into battle. Earning additional vehicles is a bit of a gamble. You pay coins or gems to a vending machine, and cars are dispensed at random. They range from common to legendary cars, and they can be leveled up by collecting more of the same cars. There are daily challenges, achievements and a leaderboard to keep gameplay fresh. Overall, the gameplay is easy to grasp and makes for fast paced, non-stop fun.

Not only does Crash of Cars play good, it also looks good. This games has bright, cartoonish graphics that play well with the overall playful feel. Each location is well built and individual from one another. You can go from a castle in the middle of a river of lava to a water park! There are a ton of destructible objects around for you to crash into. There’s no need to crash into them, it’s just satisfying. There’s a clean and rather simple interface to navigate. Your main menu has your selected vehicle front and center. From there, you have access to your cars, settings, missions, achievements, deals and offers, gems and coins and your current level. What’s pretty neat is the fact that the main menu changes based on the you’re going to next. If you’re going to the water park level next, then the menu shows your car sitting at the water park. Just a nice detail to add a little flair to the game. Both graphics and presentation of Crash of Cars get high marks. There’s a lot of attention to detail and creativity.
There’s not much to say about the sound in Crash of Cars. For music, you’re greeted with some nice upbeat music at the main menu to set the mood for destruction. Once you enter a stage, the music changes to match the theme of the level. What’s unfortunate is the fact that the music stops after about ten seconds, leaving you with nothing but sound effects from there until you are destroyed; it’s a minor gripe though. As for sound effects, they’re solid. Nothing’s too loud, too quiet or annoying in any way. Both music and sound effects are nice and add to the overall experience.

Crash of Cars has a lot going for it, but we can’t forget the fact that it is an app. There are micro-transactions and free-mium features involved in this game. How intrusive they are play a huge role in the overall fun factor. What’s fortunate is that they aren’t intrusive at all. You can play this game and progress a great deal without having to reach for your wallet even once. There are two currencies involved: coins and gems. Coins are your standard currency; they’re what you earn from playing rounds and doing missions. Gems are the premium currency, so in order to get these in great quantities, you’ll need to buy them. You use coins to gamble for new vehicles and buy new skins. You use gems for the same things, but you get rarer items and cars with gems. The pressure to purchase additional coins and gems is nonexistent, as there’s nothing in your face telling you to buy. Just play it like you would any console game, which is a rare treat in this day and age.

So, does Crash of Cars deserve your attention? Yes! This is a great game that’s sure to win over those looking for some smash ‘em up fun. It’s targeted towards more of the casual gamer; one who just want to pick up their phone and start playing. It has solid gameplay, a clean and easy to navigate interface, and fun and colorful graphics all wrapped in a package you can play without having to pay.
