Apple ditches Bing for Google on Siri and macOS searches

Apple is ditching Microsoft's Bing as the default web search provider for its iOS and macOS platform. Bing will be replaced by Google Search as the default web search provider for Siri on iOS,  and Spotlight on the Mac.

This means now when you ask Siri to search something on the web, it will return Google results instead of Bing. Users are already getting search results from Google Search on iOS and Mac.

Apple says the reason for the switch is to give users "consistent web search experience". This is no surprise given the fact the Google holds a chunkier share of the worldwide search both on mobile devices and desktop. Google is already the default search engine for Apple's Safari web browser on Macs, iPhones and iPads.

However, Bing will continue to function as the default search engine for images in both Siri and Spotlight on Mac, and YouTube will handle video searches.
