Apple postpones release of HomePod speaker to early 2018

The release date of Apple's HomePod has been postponed. It was supposed to ship in December 2017, but Apple has now sent out an official statement saying the shipping will begin early 2018. However, an exact date was not mentioned. The delay will hurt Apple badly, as it will be missing out on the sales during the holiday season in the U.S.

Regarding the delay, Apple only said it needed a little more time before the HomePod is ready, but did not provide any reason. In a statement Apple said:

"We can’t wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple’s breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it’s ready for our customers. We’ll start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018."

To recollect, the cylindrical shaped Siri-powered HomePod is  just under 7-inches tall and can be placed anywhere in the home. It is controlled by voice via the built-in six microphones, and the magic word to activate it is "Hey Siri". 

The smart speaker can perform the usual activities like answering your questions, web search, play music, set reminders, send message, check news, get weather & sports updates or control connected devices in the home and more. It is also designed to work with Apple Music, giving access to more than 40 million songs.

The device uses spatial awareness to sense its location in a room and automatically adjust the audio. It features a large, Apple-designed upward-facing woofer, paired with the custom A8 chip that ensures the speaker delivers the deepest and cleanest bass possible, with low distortion. It also has a custom array of seven beam-forming tweeters, each with its own amplifier with high frequency acoustics and directional control,  promising pristine sound quality.
