Over 150,000 Redmi Y1/Y1 Lite units sold out in three minutes


The selfie-centric Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite went on sale for the first time in India today via Mi.com and Amazon India. And it comes as no surprise, the phones went out of stock quickly.

Xiaomi claims that over 150,000 units of Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite were sold out in just three minutes during the first sale. It also revealed that the next flash sale will take place on November 15.

The Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite are Xiaomi's first selfie-centric offering for the Indian market to compete with Oppo and vivo, whose smartphones are priced much higher.

As a reminder, the Redmi Y1 comes in two variants 3GB/32GB priced at Rs. 8,999 and 4GB/64GB priced Rs. 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite on the other hand costs just Rs. 6,999. They come in Gold and Dark Gray colors.

To recap the specs, the Redmi Y1 features 5.5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 435 processor, 13MP f/2.2 PDAF rear camera, 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera with dedictaed flash and 3080mAh battery. Other noteworthy features include Gorilla Glass protection, 4G VoLTE, fingerprint scanner, dedicated slots for dual-SIM and microSD card and IR Blaster.

The Redmi Y1 Lite is a tone down version of Redmi Y1 featuring 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, Snapdragon 425 chip and 5MP selfie camera. Both Redmi Y1/Y1 Lite run Android 7.1.1 Nougat based MIUI 8, but will receive MIUI 9 soon.
