Android 8.1 Oreo brought some annoying swipe issues for the Nexus and Google Pixel devices

As much as I love Android (and as many people do), sometimes the bugs that come with its new releases are irritating. Google recently released Android 8.1 for the Pixel and Nexus devices. A lot of users have reported on Reddit and Google's Product Forums that they have been facing some swipe-related problems with their devices after updating to Oreo 8.1.

It is said that any action that requires swiping, say swiping up to unlock the device, are hard to do since they require a lot of effort. Some reports even claim that these swipe issues are leading to problems while accepting or declining calls. According to the reports, one can get the swipe gestures to work on the calling screen only after trying multiple times.

What did Google say?

Google has acknowledged the issue officially. A Google staff member on the Product Forums said that they were "looking into" the issue. Based on the number of user reports, this appears to be a widespread issue. Let's hope that Google will iron out this issue with an update soon.
