Essential Phone Getting January Security Patches With Fixes For Spectre & Meltdown

Essential is rolling out another update fpr the PH-1. This update brings with it the January security patch and fixes for the recently reported CPU vulnerabilities - Spectre and Meltdown.

The update carries the build number NMJ88C. If you are using a carrier branded version (Sprint or Telus) of the PH-1, you may have to wait longer for the update than unlocked PH-1 users. This is because updates for carrier locked devices have to be first verified by the carrier. Because of this additional verification step, updates for carrier locked devices are usually delayed.

Once you install this update, you will not be able to sideload the Oreo Beta 2. We currently don't know when Essential will be rolling out the stable Oreo update. Hopefully, Essential's next Ask-Me-Anything session on Reddit will give us as an ETA for the Oreo update. We will keep you posted.
