OnePlus 6 Getting OxygenOS 5.1.7 OTA Update With Fixes For Bootloader Vulnerability

A few days ago a vulnerability was discovered in the bootloader of the OnePlus 6 which allowed anyone with physical access to the device to boot any arbitrary image. This meant that a custom recovery such as TWRP could be installed even on a locked bootloader. If exploited of, this vulnerability could be used to obtain complete control over a OnePlus 6 without the owner's consent. The possible exploits include factory resetting the phone, changing the storage contents, or modifying the phone's software entirely. Given the seriousness of the vulnerability, OnePlus said that it would soon roll out an update to fix it. That update is now rolling out in the form of OxygenOS 5.1.7.

OxygenOS 5.1.7 also consists of fixes for the schedule do not disturb setting not working. The changelog for the update is as follows:

Changelog

System
Fixed schedule setting for Do Not Disturb (DND) mode
Updated bootloader for system security enhancement
General bug fixes and improvements

OnePlus received several reports from Indian users of stability issues in the OxygenOS 5.1.6 update. The company has therefore halted the roll out of OOS 5.1.6. OnePlus has said that it is working on tracking down the cause of the problem. The Indian OnePlus 6 users will not be getting the OOS 5.1.7 update, and will instead receive OxygenOS 5.1.8 next week with fixes for the bootloader vulnerability and stability issues. OxygenOS 5.1.7 will be rolled out in all regions except India.

Since this is an OTA update, it will be rolled out in phases. A small batch of users will get the update today, followed by a broader roll out each subsequent day. You can try pulling the update manually by going to Settings > System updates > Check for updates. Several users on the OnePlus forums said that they received the update after changing the region to Canada in TurboVPN. If you don't want to wait for the update, you can try the VPN method or flash the update using the files linked below. I wouldn't recommend Indian users to install this update because OOS 5.1.8 will be rolling out next week.
