Android 9 Pie Sources Are Now Available On AOSP

What I like the most about Android is that it's open source. This means once a manufacturer drops support for a device, that device can continue to see newer Android versions provided the device's kernel source is available and it's bootloader can be unlocked.

Google has also posted the Android 9 based source code for the Pixel smartphones. The sources for the first generation Pixel and Pixel XL can be found here, and those for the Pixel 2s are available here.

You can expect Pie-based AOSP ROMs to show up soon, but since these would be the first batch of Android 9 ROMs, they are bound to be buggy. In addition to AOSP ROMs, Android 9 GSIs will make it possible to run the latest Android version on Treble supported devices.
