Android 9 Pie is out for the POCO F1 but you may not want to update

At the launch of the POCO F1, Xiaomi promised to update the phone to Pie by the end of the year. The company is living to its word as it has began rolling out stable Android 9 based MIUI 10 for the device. The update changelog mentions Pie (of course!), Google Lens in the camera, and fixes for Android Auto, touch issues and the microphone.

Even though the update has been classified as stable, several users have reported issues. Some say that the option to hide the notch disappeared after installing the update. There are also reports of the screen freezing and not responding to the touches, the gestures not working, and issues with smart unlock have also been reported. POCO has already acknowledged several of the issues and has assured of a fix in a future update.

If you do decide to update, you will have to download the OTA file weighing 1.7GB. You can also grab the OTA file from here and install the update manually from the Updater. When you get the update depends on when POCO makes it available in your region. Even when the update will be available for your region, it will take a while to reach you because OTA updates are rolled out in a phased manner. I would recommend holding off the update. The next stable update, which will be released soon, should fix some, if not all, of the aforementioned issues.
