Why Deezer says the tool matters

The company argues that the rise of AI music is creating a transparency problem for listeners and a fraud problem for rights holders. Deezer has said that a large share of streams from fully AI-generated tracks appear to be fraudulent, meaning they are likely being generated to siphon royalties rather than attract genuine listeners.

According to Deezer, its detection system examines audio signals for patterns associated with generative music models and can identify tracks produced by major AI tools such as Suno and Udio. The company has also said the system was trained on tens of millions of songs and has reached a reported 99.8% accuracy in detecting AI-generated music.

From internal moderation to broader industry use

Deezer first deployed its AI detection tool in early 2025, when it said it was receiving about 10,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day, or roughly 10% of daily uploads. By April 2026, that number had climbed to nearly 75,000 per day, representing about 44% of new uploads.

Since then, Deezer has moved from internal enforcement to commercial licensing. In January, Reuters reported that Deezer licensed the technology to France’s royalty organization Sacem as part of a wider roll-out strategy. Deezer later said it was making the tool commercially available to the broader industry in order to support transparency and reduce incentives for fraud.

What the tool does on Deezer

On Deezer’s own platform, the detection system is used to tag fully AI-generated tracks and keep them out of algorithmic and editorial recommendations. Deezer has also said that streams identified as fraudulent are excluded from royalty pools and demonetized.

The company says it has already detected and tagged more than 13.4 million AI tracks in 2025 alone. Deezer also reported that AI-generated music remains a small share of overall listening, accounting for only about 1% to 3% of total streams on the platform, even as uploads continue to surge.
