Daydream Taps Apple Intelligence on iOS 27 to Turn Camera Roll Outfits Into Shoppable Looks

TL;DR

  • Daydream's new iOS 27 update uses Apple Intelligence and Visual Intelligence to turn screenshots, Instagram saves, and camera roll photos into instant shoppable matches without opening the app.
  • A new hands-free Siri integration lets shoppers say things like "Find that linen blazer from Italy" and get curated product results powered by Daydream's personalization engine.
  • The launch positions Daydream as a showcase partner for Apple's on-device AI commerce push, with privacy-first processing and App Intents built for iPhone 16 and newer.

Your Saved Photos Just Became Shoppable

Fashion discovery startup Daydream is betting that your next outfit won't start with a search bar — it will start with your camera roll.

In an update timed to Apple's iOS 27 rollout this week, the AI-powered shopping app unveiled a deep integration with Apple Intelligence that turns any saved outfit photo into an instant shopping session. Screenshots from TikTok, red-carpet photos, old vacation pics, or that Pinterest board you screenshotted six months ago can now surface shoppable lookalikes in seconds.

It's the biggest update yet for Daydream, the personalized fashion platform co-founded by former Stitch Fix COO Julie Bornstein, and a clear signal of where Apple wants AI-driven commerce to go: out of apps, and into the OS itself.

No App Opening Required

The centerpiece is Camera Roll Search, powered by Apple's upgraded Visual Intelligence in iOS 27.

Here's how it works: long-press an outfit photo in Photos, Files, Safari, or even Instagram, and iOS now offers a "Shop with Daydream" action alongside Apple's standard Look Up and Visual Search options. Tap it, and Daydream identifies individual garments — a cropped trench, baggy jeans, ballet flats, a handbag shape — and returns a feed of similar, in-stock products matched to your size, budget, and style preferences.

Unlike generic visual search, Daydream says its models understand context. It can differentiate between linen vs. cotton, recognize fit and drape, filter out-of-stock items, and prioritize brands you've liked before. Users can refine results conversationally right inside the system sheet, for example: "same vibe but under $150" or "in petite," without ever launching the full Daydream app.

The company says all matching leverages Apple's on-device processing where possible, with personal style profiles staying encrypted and user-controlled.

Hey Siri, Find That Jacket

The second half of the update is hands-free Siri shopping.

With new App Intents support in iOS 27, Daydream is now fully actionable via Siri and Spotlight. You can say:

"Hey Siri, find that polka-dot dress I saved in Daydream last week."
"Siri, ask Daydream to find brown loafers like the ones from my Rome trip."
"Siri, show me Daydream picks under $200 for fall weddings."

Siri pulls personal context — with permission — from your photos, saved items, and past Daydream chats to deliver a curated carousel of results on the lock screen, in Spotlight, or via voice on AirPods. You can add to cart, save to a board, or ask follow-ups like "only in vegan leather" completely hands-free.

In a demo shared with press, a user cooking dinner asked Siri for "date-night outfits like the one Zendaya wore," and received a Daydream board in under five seconds, no typing or scrolling required.

Built For iOS 27's New Intelligence Stack

Daydream's timing isn't accidental. iOS 27 expands Apple Intelligence with system-wide Visual Intelligence, smarter Siri with on-screen awareness and personal context, and deeper App Intents for third-party commerce apps.

Daydream was built as an early launch partner for the new APIs, alongside tighter Live Activities for price drops and back-in-stock alerts. The app requires iPhone 15 Pro or newer, with the full on-device Visual Intelligence experience optimized for iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 models.

CEO Bornstein framed the launch as a shift from search-to-shop to see-to-shop: "People don't shop with keywords anymore. They shop with screenshots. Our goal is to collapse the gap between inspiration and checkout, and with Apple Intelligence, that gap is now zero."

Privacy And Personalization As The Pitch

In a crowded AI shopping field competing with Google Lens, Amazon's Rufus, and ChatGPT-powered stylists, Daydream is leaning hard on two differentiators: fashion-specific training and Apple-grade privacy.

The company says outfit analysis happens using Apple's private cloud compute framework, and Daydream doesn't train on users' private photos without explicit opt-in. Style preferences, sizes, and disliked brands are stored in the app's private profile, not sold to advertisers.

Early testers say the results feel noticeably more editorial than Amazon or Pinterest Lens — less exact-duplicate hunting, more "get the look for your body and budget."

What Comes Next

The iOS 27 integration is live in the U.S. starting today, with UK and EU support expected this fall pending regulatory clearance for Apple Intelligence features.

Daydream says next up are AI-generated try-on boards in Apple Photos, shared family wishlists via Siri, and integration with Apple Pay Later-style checkout tracking.

If it catches on, your most powerful shopping app on iOS 27 might be the one you never actually open.
