Omate’s TrueSmart+ smartwatch runs Android 5.1 Lollipop
Before Google's Android wear and Apple Watch, Omate, a startup, was developing its smartwatch running stripped down version of Android. The company launched their first smartwatch via KickStart.
Now, Omate has launched two new smartwatches - Omate TrueSmart+ and TrueSmart-i, aimed at being a smartphone replacement.
The TrueSmart+ runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Omate's OUI 3.0 UI on top. It sports an 1.54-inch display with a resolution of 320 x 320 and is equipped with 1GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6752M processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage.
There is also a micro SIM card slot and support for 2G, 3G GPS Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. It also features a keyboard so you can reply to messages and it has mono speakers. Omate has packed sensors into the TrueSmart+ for fitness tracking and step counting. It is fueled by 700mAh battery.
It is worth noting that TrueSmart+ runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, which was developed for phones and tablets, rather than Android wear. The apps will be available via Omate's own app store and not Google Play.
Omate TrueSmart-i , features a 1.54-inch display with a resolution of 240 x 240, a built-in 5MP camera that’s capable of recording 720p video, 600mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat.
You can pre-order both of these watches from Omate’s website. The TrueSmart+ will be available for $169 and will ship in November, while the TrueSmart-i will cost $149 and will ship this October.
