Xiaomi Mi Band 2 delayed due to production issues

Xiaomi is expected to launch the Mi Band 2 fitness tracker at it May 10 event in China, alongside with Mi Max and MIUI 8. Now it appears like the Mi Band 2 won't be available for users this month. Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun on Weibo stated that the company has issues with mass production of the wearable and the wearable would be released a month later.

Meanwhile Huang Wang, CEO of Hunami, the Chinese vendor that manufactures wearables for Xiaomi also said that production problems are preventing the company from producing enough units of Mi Band 2 to meet the expected consumers demand. Looks like Xiaomi is expecting huge demand for the Mi Band 2 due to the popularity of Mi Band (and Mi Band 1s), thanks to the aggressive pricing.

However, Xiaomi could still unveil the Mi Band 2 on May 10, and make it available to the consumers later.

Earlier reports have suggested the the Mi Band 2 will have a removable module, which can be placed in the wrist band of their choice. The removable module will have a display that will show time, battery status, daily steps, BMP and other fitness-related stats. It will also have a physical button. The wearable has been leaked two times in the past months.
